About Turnkey Linux

Turnkey Linux refers to a wide selection of free, Ubuntu-based software appliances. These are primarily available for server-type usage scenarios, such as setting up database, web, forum, wiki and photo gallery servers. Each appliance is preconfigured to work out of the box, with ease of use being the primary goal behind the Turnkey Linux project.

With GigaTux, all Turnkey Linux appliances can be automatically deployed on your VPS in just by selecting the appropriate Turnkey Linux appliance from the control panel when reinstalling your operating system. This allows a fully configured appliance to be deployed in a matter of minutes.

Turnkey Linux Rails Appliance

This appliance installs Ruby on Rails, an open source web application framework for the Ruby programming language. It is intended to be used with an Agile development methodology that is used by web developers for rapid development. Ruby on Rails features several tools intended to make commonplace development tasks easier "out of the box". Rails provides scaffolding that can automatically construct some of the models and views needed for a basic website. A simple ruby web server (WEBrick) and Rake build system are also included. By including these common tools with the Rails framework, a basic development environment is in effect provided with all versions of the software.
