Turnkey Linux 14 Now Available

November 9th, 2015

GigaTux is proud to announce that Turnkey Linux 14.0 is now available at all server locations on VPSs of any size.

GigaTux has been working with the Turnkey Linux team on preparing and testing the Xen image builds to work well with the DTC automatic installer that we use to manage GigaTux virtual machines. Each appliance can be installed by just clicking a couple of buttons and basic setup is configured automatically.

Turnkey Linux 14 is based on Debian Jessie, which is the distribution we recommend for installs on VPSs. It is configured, as always, with sensible and secure defaults, and updates are performed automatically on the initial install and during regular use.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Now Available

June 12th, 2015

GigaTux is proud to be able to offer Windows Server 2012 R2 as a standard option for users opting for a VPS with Windows installed.

As with our other Windows offerings, this uses Xen HVM and we strongly suggest that you install Xen's PV drivers to get near-native speeds when performing disk and network activities. We have tested Xen PV and it seems to work just fine with 2012 R2.

Existing users of older versions of Windows are able to reinstall this version if they wish.

GigaTux Accepts Bitcoins on its Hosting Platform

December 3rd, 2012

Bitcoin logo

GigaTux is proud to accept Bitcoins on for any of its hosting products, including VPS and web hosting packages. GigaTux understands that transacting with some countries can be difficult using the regular currency channels, and also that some people would like to retain some degree of anonyminity, so Bitcoin is now accepted directly with no additional charges. The daily Bitcoin exchange rate is used for all purchases based on the price for GigaTux services and payment is usually registered within one minute.

Bitcoin is a decentralised digital currency and the most widely used alternate currency in the world. Bitcoins are not tied to any exchange rate and are exchanged between users on a peer-to-peer network which regulates Bitcoins' balances, transactions and issuance according to consensus in network software. Although not officially recognised by many organisations, Bitcoin is a fascinating experiement on global money transfer and GigaTux is proud to participate in this economy.

Windows Server 2012 Now Available

October 11th, 2012

GigaTux is proud to announce the immediate availability of Windows Server 2012 and 2008 R2 on its VPS platform.

GigaTux has been offering Windows on its VPS platform since June this year, focusing on ensuring that Windows 2008 runs in a stable manner. All locations in the UK, Germany and USA have been stable and thus GigaTux has expanded its offering to include Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Like GigaTux's Windows Server 2008 offering, both 2012 and 2008 R2 run in HVM (Hardware Virtual Machine) mode against GigaTux's Xen virtualisation foundations.

Two installation options are provided for users. The first is to boot a blank VPS off a Windows CD image that the user can choose. The user can then fully install and customise Windows using this method. The second option is for a disk image to be provided by GigaTux which comes preconfigured with RDP active and the GPL PV drivers installed - paravirtualisation drivers which improve hard disk and network I/O massively by creating a virtual device in the domU to interface more directly with the host drivers. CD images and disk images are available for all three Windows Server versions.

GigaTux remains fully committed to its Linux lineup and continues to update all distributions it offers. GigaTux offers all distributions one would typically expect (e.g. Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu) as well as many specialist distributions (e.g. Linux Mint, Arch Linux and Turnkey Linux).

In addition to Turnkey Linux being offered to GigaTux customers, GigaTux invites all users of the DTC control panel to download its pre-prepared images and use them for their VPS customers. These are available in a .deb format from the GigaTux debian repository and will work with any recent version of DTC.

Each of these appliances is immediately available for deployment on GigaTux's Linux hosting servers in the UK (London), USA (San Jose and Chicago) and Germany (Frankfurt). All servers run on Xen with hard disks in a RAID-10 configuration and two Intel Xeon CPUs each.
